Houston, TX The Kay Yow Cancer Fund®, in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research, today announced the divisional winners of the 2014 Play 4Kay® initiative. Houston St. Agnes Academy, in conjunction with Tomball Concordia Lutheran, were named the High School Play 4Kay Division Winners. The Play 4Kay initiative serves as a platform for a nation of coaches, student-athletes and fans to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, an organization committed to funding women’s cancer research and supporting projects that assist the underserved community. The institutions that raised the most funds in each division were recognized at the 2014 Wow 4Yow Party on Friday, April 4, held in conjunction with the 2014 Women’s Final Four and the WBCA National Convention in Nashville, Tenn.

“I am so thrilled that our program, along with Tomball Concordia, was able to raise more than $8000 for this wonderful cause,” said Coach Jeff Hollinger of St. Agnes Academy. “It was through a process of securing sponsors, and players who donated much of their own time to selling wristbands, baked goods and contributing their OWN money, that we were able to raise this generous amount.”

From February 7 to 17, teams from across the country participated in Play 4Kay games and made donations to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. ESPN® supported the national effort by airing seven Play 4Kay games across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Since the inception of the Play 4Kay initiative in 2007, the program has raised more than $2.6 million in support of women’s cancer research and related projects.

Sandra Kay Yow was a former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach, past president and founding member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. The Play 4Kay campaign is an annual initiative that invites student-athletes, coaches and communities to participate in athletic events to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
