The Tiger Girls’ officers attended Trendsetter’s four day officer line camp in early June. The line improved leadership skills through workshops and group problem solving. In addition, the line took dance classes from the Trendsetters staff and a master class from Lauren Froderman, season seven winner of So You Think You Can Dance. Though the camp was challenging, by the end of the camp, both lines were bonded closely and felt ready to lead their team successfully.
The social officers planned the entire social calendar for the year by attending leadership sessions, brainstorming for social events and creating a presentation of their ideas for the staff to judge. The social officers won the Trendsetter award for overall teamwork, leadership, and quality of work. In addition, they performed a skit and won first place for overall content and quality. They also won a perfect score on their ideas for the year, and a VIP award for their poster. Lastly, they received the platinum award for overall performance as a social line throughout the week.
Coach Julie Chilton says of the experience, “The Military officers impressed the camp staff with their strong technical ability and their extreme dedication in perfecting the routines for each of the evaluations. I was impressed with how each dancer was able to come together after a long day of dance classes and work efficiently in polishing the routine that was going to be evaluated the following morning. Our girls worked hard and persevered in the late night rehearsals and always remained positive!”
The Tiger Girl Dance officer line attended many leadership sessions, but spent the majority of their time taking challenging classes in all styles of dance, including several master classes from Lauren Froderman. Every morning, the dance officers were evaluated on a routine from one of their classes based on technique, performance and choreography quality by judges. They were chosen to perform their second place lyrical piece for the entire camp at the awards ceremony. At the awards ceremony they won the leadership award for the week because of their display of mutual respect, teamwork and sportsmanship. In addition, they received the technique award for having the best technique in all of their dances throughout the week; the artistry award for choreography and performance; and the platinum award for the overall week’s performance.
