The latest season of the St. Agnes volleyball program finds the Tigers in pursuit of another state title. They are just two wins away from that goal. The 2015 season started with co-captains Emma Hansen and Meghan Doyle being selected to lead the team. The theme of pursuit was adopted and the banner was made into reality.
The tournament season saw SAA play at the Heralded Pearland Invitational where they went 3-4 defeating UIL 6A playoff team Deer Park while defeating another UIL 6A opponent Clear Brook and TAPPS Final Four team Ursuline Academy. The team also played in the Spring Branch and Leander tournaments going 11-7 to cap off a successful tournament season matched against perennial state contender UIL teams.
St. Agnes, in addition to its two captains, is led by Seniors Amanda Krahl (Appalachian St. recruit), Lauren Heylmun, and Lindsey Mouch. Solid contributors off the bench have been Amy Bui ’17, Marichael Clarin-Jante ’18, Avery Kelly ’17.
During the regular season St. Agnes continued to work on its offense and defense and posted a 17-1 record and was named Co-Champions of TAPPS 5A District 3 with an 11-1 record. Their dominance was further evident where they went 53-8 in sets. Juniors Raven Sulaimon, Mallory May, and Audrey Keenan were proven contributors along with Quinn Biggio ’18 at the defensive specialist position.
The team went into the TAPPS playoffs on a roll and had defeated Plano John Paul II and Plano Prestonwood to earn a berth in the state final four tournament. The culmination of the season will be Thursday – Saturday in San Antonio where St. Agnes will look to take the title and will have to go through Dallas Ursuline Academy, Dallas Bishop Lynch and Tomball Concordia Lutheran. Cheer on our Tigers!
