Houston, TX – Remix Dance Company, an elite group of dancers in the Tiger Girls Dance Team at St. Agnes Academy, won first place in Jazz, first place in Team Performance, and second place in Pom at the NCA & NDA Lone Star Classic held at Reliant Arena on November 10, 2013. The 14-member dance company competed against 10 other teams as they focused on cutting-edge dance styles and advanced ballet technique. Remix performs at special school events and will compete at NDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida, in March 2014.
“Coach Christy Holecek and I are so proud of all of our dancers,” said Head Dance Coach Julie Chilton. “They performed like professionals and have been preparing for this regional event since August. We still have work to do and this is just the beginning of our journey to NDA Nationals in Florida in March 2014!”
A student must be entering grades 10-12 to audition for Remix. Each company member is required to attend a mandatory NDA camp in the summer. Dancers are chosen by team audition scores and by director recommendation. Remix dancers are required to enroll in the Competitive/Advanced Dance Class and practice on occasional Saturdays. Remix dancers earn a Fine Art credit for the course.
National Dance Alliance (NDA) made its official debut as a sister company of the National Cheerleaders Association in 1976. They are committed to leadership development, strong support of school athletic teams, pursuit of excellence in technical skills, and teamwork. Their goal is to instill in each young dancer the core principles of acting with integrity, inspiring excellence in others, and becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
